HOW PROBLEM STATEMENTS ARE ORIGINATED
At KCF General Assembly (Community members, KCF staff, Ordinary and honorary members), members are facilitated to do a KCF Situation analysis after having received the Annual report. The Solution tree drawn from the analysis is passed over to the general coordinator’s Council (GCC) for harmonization. After that, it is then passed for funding. The technical personnel iron out the key issues for implementation.
KCF ensures that the Action Plans used in the Planning processes from the grassroots are derived using participatory approaches. These draw ideas from a broad spectrum of the people across gender and poverty index divides. Training communities in Problem Tree drawing and Solution Tree drawing is mandatory. Training communities in drawing Resource Maps with Pair wise ranking of projects, is the norm.
These are supplemented by baseline surveys and other researches carried out by the technical staff to concretize the facts and figures. Then strategic partnerships are developed to address or share the concerns. Sometimes it is in the forums of stakeholders and strategic partners that some key concerns are fronted.
In KCF, we know that we are moving towards our goal when independent evaluation reports confirm that our work plans have been well implemented. We are scoring our goals when all partners are achieving their plans as stated out in their cumulative plans and reports. We heavily base our operations on the Result Oriented Management (ROM) concept and Balance Score Card.
However, biggest percentage of our funding is from good Samaritans that are touched by the problems and respond with compassion. The overall outcome of these partnerships to date has been a strong contribution to organizational learning for KCF complementing our previous experiences and a unique comprehension of the socio-cultural contextand tradition expatriates in many NGOs find rather intriguing.
